Dance Forms

 Dancewear & Hair Requirements

 

--Required Dancewear for our GBSD classes can be any colour athletic wear (please make sure all things are covered that should be). We will not allow vulgar/derogatory sayings on any clothing, hoodies and/or jeans are not to be worn in class. If you are enrolled in our ballet program you are required to wear pink tights and a black body suit.

--Requirments for hair is that all loose hair must be tied back and off dancers' face. If you are enrolled in a ballet class your hair is to be in a neat bun.

--Footwear requirments are per genre of dance. Acro-no shoes, Ballet-pink ballet split sole slippers, Hip Hop-black nonmarking sole sneakers, Jazz-black jazz shoes, Kinder-no shoes, Musical Theatre-Teacher will let dancers know

Acro

age 4 by December 31 with one year of Kinderdanzz or age 5, and must be enrolled in ballet, technique, or jazz and/or by teacher approval

A style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. Dancers will learn the basics of bending their backs to perform tricks such as bridges, handstands, cartwheels, and walkovers.

 

Ballet

age 4 by December 31 with one year of Kinderdance experience or age 5

Essential to your dance training, ballet is a complex mixture of technique, coordination, and musicality. Ballet, which dates back to the 15th century, is the basic form to which all dance forms have evolved. Ballet helps to strengthen a dancer’s core muscles, flexibility, strength, poise and discipline. Correct posture and carriage development are enhanced in our ballet classes, as well as development on balance and coordination. If a dancer wants to progress in their dance training, ballet should be taken as a necessary step in their development.

Ballet Technique

age 11+

Boys Class

age 4 by December 31 with one year of Kinderdanzz experience or age 5 

A unique way to interest boys in dance. A mix of hip hop and breakdancing, using many styles to work kinesthetically with boys to encourage movement and strength

 

Contemporary

age 9+ and with teacher approval

A unique and novel dance form that combines jazz technique, lyrical style, and modern movements. The contemporary style takes dance to a whole new level by introducing various ways to explore movement and pushing our bodies to new limits. Contemporary dance introduces full body movements, coordinates the body from head to toe, and also isolates individual limb performance. Emphasis is also placed on emotional execution and students will learn to tell a story through their body language and their facial expressions. Contemporary dance is a connection between the mind, body, and soul. 

 

Hip Hop

age 4 by December 31 with one year of Kinderdanzz or age 5

A popular style of dance that teaches dancers how to isolate their body (moving a specific body part independently from others). Originated in the streets, hip hop is well known through many music videos and television dance shows (America’s Best Dance Crew, So You Think You Can Dance, etc). This style of dance is very rhythmic, and involves a lot of footwork and movement of the hips. Hip hop is primarily choreographed to hip hop music from artists such as Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Drake, and many other talented artists.

Jazz

age 4 by December 31 with one year Kinderdanzz or age 5

One of the most popular dance styles in the dance world and can be found in movies, music videos, TV shows, and commercials. This style of dance is high energy and fun to watch, and a good jazz class explodes with energy! Dancers will learn unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. Jazz develops a dancer’s flexibility, strength, and placement through dance combinations and choreography.

Kinder Ballet

age 3 by December 31

 

 

Kinderdanzz

age 3 by December 31

Introduces the young dancer to the exciting world of dance through rhythm, music and movement. Gross motor skills, co-ordination, stamina and agility are developed and refined through this class. Many class activities include arm movements, basic rhythms, exercises in flexibility and balance, as well as coordinating steps like skips, gallops, marching, and turns. Upon completion of this class, each child will not only gain numerous skills and techniques, but will also obtain a love and appreciation for dance and music.

 

Mini Crew

age 2 & 3 year olds 

Toddlers will enjoy a 30 min. class of movement and awareness as an intro to dance. Props will add to the fun for a 10 week session.

Musical Theatre

age 7+

Dancers will be taught how to properly lip-sync while dancing and acting at the same time! This fun class not only teaches the dancer how to perform, but it often allows the child to “come out of their shell” and shine their personality through. This style of dance is often performed to songs from famous musicals or musical movies

Tap

age 4 by December 31 with one year of Kinderdanzz or age 5

An exciting form of dance where dancers wear shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dances create rhythmic patterns through timely beats while entertaining the audience. This form of dance makes the dancer not only a performer, but also a percussive musician. Dancers will practice a series of basic steps, adding more difficult combinations as they progress. Tap builds aerobic fitness, memorization skills, muscle control, and is also an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise.
